Here, the dark side of humankind wrote its most atrocious pages –  by trying to wipe out the Cyrillic alphabet and kill Serbs as nation”

On Sunday, 22 April,  a ceremony was held in Donja Gradina, Republika Srpska (RS)  to mark Remembrance Day for the Jasenovac genocide victims.

Jasenovac was a death camp complex located on both banks of the Drina River, in what is today Bosnia and Croatia, run by the fascist Independent State of Croatia, (NDH) – a Nazi-allied WW2 entity.

Jasenovac will continue to stand witness of the time in which the fascist creation of Independent State of Croatia did not hesitate to use its ideology and aspiration to eliminate Serbs from the territory even when it came to children,” – RS president MIlorad Dodik

These execution sites, including the largest, Jasenovac itself, were, during the war, the places of mass murder of Serbs, Roma, and Jews, where between 700 000  and million people were tortured, mutilated and starved to death, including tens of thousands children.

From August 1941 to April 1945, hundreds of thousands of Serbs, Jews, and Romas, as well as anti-fascists of many nationalities, were murdered at the death camp known as Jasenovac.  And yet, despite the scale of the crimes committed there, most of the world has never heard of Jasenovac which was the third concentration camp in the number of victims in all of Europe.

Following the Nazi invasion and dismemberment of Yugoslavia in April 1941, the “Independent State of Croatia” was established as a native Croatian Nazi government. It was dedicated to a clerical-fascist ideology influenced both by Nazism and extreme Roman Catholic fanaticism.

The Ustasha Nazi movement (also known as Ustaše, Ustashas or Ustashi) was formed in the early 30s by Dr Ante Pavelich as an underground organization with close ties to German Nazis and Italian Fascists. On coming to power, the Ustashe Party dictatorship in Croatia quickly commenced on a systematic policy of racial extermination of all Serbs, Jews and Romas living within its borders. By June 1941, signs on all public establishments read, “NO SERBS, JEWS, GYPSIES AND DOGS ALLOWED.”

ALEKSANDAR VUCIC

” Serbs wish to make it clear at this place that they will not agree to death, that they will protect their homeland and kin and fight for life without the wish to take revenge, but they will never forget the past either.”, adding that : “soon upon the constitution of the NDH, one of Europe’s biggest death camps was set up and systematic execution of civilians was performed there, with the victims guilty “just because they were Serbs, Jews, Roma and did not want to serve the Ustasha and occupation forces.”
Here, the dark side of humankind wrote its most atrocious pages,” he noted, and added that Ustasha had tried to wipe out the Cyrillic alphabet and Serb nation, Vucic said.

Jasenovac is also known for having been the most barbaric death camp of the Holocaust for the extreme cruelty in which its victims were tortured and murdered. Jasenovac was not the only death camp in fascist occupied Yugoslavia, but it was by far the largest and the one in which a majority of the some one million victims of racial genocide in World War II fascist Croatia were exterminated.

But its significance also lies in the way in which the crimes have been concealed. Historians have called Jasenovac “the dark secret of the Holocaust” and “the suppressed chapter of Holocaust history.” Public recognition of the tragedy that occurred there has been suppressed either partially or completely by governments and institutions for a variety of reasons. Today Jasenovac is located in the newly created state of Croatia, whose government has vandalized the site and refused to acknowledge the horrors that took place there. The failure of some leading Western academic and humanitarian institutions to fully recognize the historic dimensions of Jasenovac is a shameful omission that will tarnish their reputations forever.

The mass murder of the Serbs began already at the end of April, 1941, with the massacres in the villages around Bjelovar, in Banija in May, in Lika in June, in Kordun, and also in Bosnian Krajina and Herzegovina following the formation of local Bosnian Muslim Nazi SS Divisions

It is thought that just in the period from April, 1941, to the middle of August, 1942, over 600,000 Serbs were killed in the most brutal ways imaginable notably by throwing living people in horizontal pits called “jame.”

This is how it was done:

There are hudreds of them and the largest were JADOVNO, GOLUBINKA in Medjugorje, STUPACINOVO in Karlobag, KISTANJE, UGLJENACA, GRACAC, VRANOVINE, SKOCAJE, MACOLINA jama in Gospic, GOLUBNJACA on Plitvicka jezera and so forth. During the entire war over 180,000 Serbs were deported to central Serbia proper. In addition, most of the Jews in Croatia had been brought to Jasenovac before August 1942 at which point they were transported directly to Auschwitz and other camps in Germany.

NDH was notorious for their concentration camp – for Serbian infants and children. It was located in Sisak,  founded on 3. August 1942. after Croatian operations of ethnic cleansing in Kozara and Samarica region once were completed. This notorious conc camp consisted of special part officially called ” Shelter for the refugee children .”  Children camp in Sisak , the largest of that type within NDH (Independent State of Croatia) , was under the auspices of the ” Ustasha movement female lineage” and ” Ustasha Security Service” , under direct control of ustasha  Dr. Antun Najzer .

Serbian children in the Croatian concentration camp; ( from Yugoslav WW II archive)

The camp was located in several buildings in the city : in former Yugoslav Falconry Association building (so called  Sokolana) , in the nunnery of the (Roman Catholic) Sisters of St . Vincent ,  saltwork Rice warehouse , Guci building , in the elementary school in New Sisak and in so called  Quarantena in one of six concentration camp barracks . All these buildings were utterly unsuitable  for the housing of children . For example in the Falconry associaltion  there were no doors; it was drafty because the whole construction was set up for drying the salt .

The baby prisoners,  even the smallest one who was only a few months old , had to lie on the floor with only a thin layer of straw, without any clothes or blankets .

The first group of Serbian children arrived to Sisak on 3 August 1942; there were 906 of them. The very next day another group of 650 children was brough; in the third group (arrived on 6. August ) was 1 272 children.

In Teslic glasshouse and the newly built barracks, named ,,Karantena”  a general concentration camp for men, women and children had been established.  During August and September 1942,   Croats deprived 3971 children from parents who were selected for forced labor in Germany.

Thus from August 1942. – 8 February 1943.  there was 6693 detained children, boys and girls, all of them Serbs from Kozara, Kordun and Slavonia.

Modern Croatia was the first post Cold war Neonazi state, and that was obvious after they adopted NDH flag, coat of arms, currency and policy towards Serbs, that never changes.

That’s how the World got the replica of the NAZI Croatia flag in front of the EU and United Nations institutions:

CRO      Pavelic

It flies freely IN JASENOVAC, ABOVE THE MASS GRAVE OF SOME 600,000 VICTIMS.

And the World got Nazi Croatian currency: Kuna (above) ; one of the first thing Croats did after illegal secession was to return Kuna (the ‘new’ Kuna under) :

KUna                hrk

Cro regiment

The 369th Croatian Reinforced Infantry Regiment, Hrvatska Legija, part of the German 100th Division. Note coat of arms on their sleeves.

Something similar happened  last year, on January 29, when not a single Croatian bishop attended the International Remembrance Day of the Holocaust in Croatia.

Herman Naubacher, Hitler’s personal assistant for the South-East Europe and the Balkan affairs, in his book “Sonderauftrag Sudosten 1940-1945. Bericht eines fliegenden Diplomate”, Gottingen, 1956, on page 31, writes:

The Orthodox recipe’ of Ante Pavelic, Ustashi leader and Croatian Fuehrer, reminds one of the religious wars in the bloodest aspects: one-third must become Catholic, one-third must leave the country and one-third must die. The last item was executed ”

However the real ruler of World War II Croatia was Ante Pavelic, a fanatical hater of Serbs. Pavelic lead a terrorist group called the Ustashi in a brutal campaign against Serbs in Croatia

“A good Ustashi,” he told his men, “is he who can use his knife to cut a child from the womb of its mother.” According to an Italian correspondent, Pavelich once put a wicker basket on his desk – filled with 40 pounds of eyes gourged from victims of the Ustashi.
